Universal struck a gold mine when they resurrected Fast and Furious in 2009. Over a decade later and the franchise is still racing full speed with The Fast and Furious 9 arriving May 2020. It was announced the Fast & Furious 9 trailer will arrive on January 31, 2020, as part of a live concert event in Miami.  Featuring the works of Cardi B, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa and Ozuna,  the event and trailer will no doubt continue the franchise’s previous installments’ trends of globe-trotting adventures, fast cars, and family.

But public behind the scenes news coverage and the ending to The Fate of The Furioushave created massive suspense and kept audiences on edge.  Here are ten questions The Fast & Furious 9 trailer should answer.

Cipher

The Fate of the Furious’ big bad Cipher made a clean getaway after her big plan failed and time will tell if she wants a rematch.

Confirmed for Fast & Furious 9, Cipher proved to be a powerful and devastating villain for Dominic Toretto and his crew, killing the mother of Toretto’s child and tearing the team apart.  With her escape, she will no doubt come back to complete her destructive mission. However, the franchise has made a habit of having the villains be only pawns in a bigger scheme and a more menacing villain. Will the trend continue with her?

Cardi B

In a surprise late addition to the film, it was announced that Cardi B would be joining the Fast & Furious Crew.

With her recent performance in Hustlers, Cardi B continues to pad her acting career. Her boisterous attitude and hilarious personality should bide well with the varied traits of the other characters. Nevertheless, we don’t know the extent of her purpose or the backstory of her character.  The Fast & Furious 9 trailer should ride on her everlasting popularity and showcase what she’ll be contributing to the franchise.

Hobbs and Shaw

No modern Fast and Furious movie can be complete without some inclusion of Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs.

in 2019, Universal released the first spinoff film Hobbs and Shaw to a resounding success, with over 750 million dollars worldwide. The events of the film were confirmed to take place after that of The Fate of The Furious. After all world-threatening antics of the film, it would be remiss if there was not a mention of where the two characters are.  While neither actor is confirmed to return in Fast & Furious 9, Shaw’s mother played by Helen Mirren is reported to make an appearance.

Jordana Brewster

Fast & Furious 9 is already shaping up to be a family affair as Dominic Toretto’s little sister Mia comes back into the fold.

After the unfortunate passing of Paul Walker, Furious 7and The Fate of The Furious seemingly wrote out his character and Jordana Brewster’s Mia, as they stayed out of the danger to protect their family. However, she is returning to the crew in the upcoming movie. The Fast & Furious 9 trailer should express why she needed to come back and what role is she has now after missing so many adventures and new characters.

New Cars

Without a doubt, the staple of the Fast and Furious Franchise has been the impressive assemble of fast cars. From beastly supercars to classics mustangs, Fast and Furious was made famous for its iconic cars. Each film is made unique by the lineup of cars and you can believe these cars will end up in a fiery wreck by the end of the film. It would wise of the trailer to start marketing in which cars are going to be the foundation of Fast & Furious 9.

New Locations

It’s been a long while since The Fast & Furious crew was a Los Angeles based crew. From Tokyo and Mexico to New York and Russia, the franchise has continued to enrich the franchise with exotic locations and cultures to hold races, meetings, and fights in.

Each film’s location helps distinguish it from the previous one and every subsequent installment. Audiences look forward to the teases of new countries to explore within the Fast & Furious universe.

Mr. Nobody and Little Nobody

When there’s a world to save, leave it to the secret government agents The Nobodies to assemble the crew to save it. The past two films have painted Mr. Nobody as the catalyst for the story, bringing the crew together and bailing them out of trouble whenever they need it most.

While Dominic Toretto may be the leader of the gang, the Nobodys’ are the ringleaders of the group, a role reminiscent of Nick Fury. Both Kurt Russell and Scott Eastwood are not returning for Fast & Furious 9. It should be addressed who is taking over as the manager of the crew or if they finally are breaking out of their control.

John Cena

With the distinction of the biggest new celebrity to the franchise, John Cena joins the fast-fold in The Fast & Furious 9.

Initially believed to come in as a replacement for Dwanye Johnson, it is now apparent that Cena will be playing an entirely new character. His addition to the series came as a welcome one if a little bit late. As the mainline Fast and Furious franchise comes to an end, it remains to be seen why Cena would contribute this late in the game.  The Fast & Furious 9 trailer will have to justify his casting, making sure that audiences are accepting of his character.

Space

Since the first insane stunt performed by a car was shown, it has been suggested that the franchise head to space. The franchise has gone from street racing to almost superhero level theatrics.

Dominic Toretto and his crew have driven in every terrain and track on Earth.  The next step simply feels like it should go o space to save the world. With the previous Fast and Furious director believing going to space is very possible, the trailer should let us know if we should get our hopes up or keep them grounded.

Official Title

Despite all the celebrity castings and story teases, perhaps the most important detail to learn from the trailer is the film’s actual title.

While it has been referred to as The Fast & Furious 9, it remains to be seen if this is the official title of the film or merely a placeholder for another. The title will likely contain a clue to the overall story of the movie, similar to The Fate of the Furious. Like Avengers: Endgame, it will likely be revealed at the end of the trailer, providing viewers with one final treat as they await the penultimate 9th film.
