The TV show Gossip Girl was full of mystery, as people wondered who this anonymous blogger was. It was full of drama, as every episode brought about more excitement and thrills. It was full of glamour, as it focused on an elite group of friends in New York City. And it was full of romance!
From the couples that did not work out to those who were destined to be together from the start, this teen drama television series certainly knew how to do steamy and sweet scenes. That being said, here are 10 pieces of relationship advice that everyone can take from Gossip Girl.
Be Open To New Possibilities
The main characters in this show had very social lives, with functions and parties to go to all the time. Therefore, they were always meeting attractive new people, and they sometimes became involved with said people.
It is smart to keep those eyes wide open and to be ready for anything. With each new day, there are new possibilities… and they could just be the romantic kind, such as bumping into an actress or a prince or a future spouse.
But Be Cautious, Too
While being open, it is also vital to be cautious. Just look at Serena, for instance: Over the years, she was involved with guys like Gabriel, Ben, Steven, Tripp, Colin, and Max, but none of those relationships were built to last. Some of them had some nice qualities, but the problems were far bigger.
A person met could be a con artist, could have a bratty daughter, could be married or could have a hidden agenda. Who knows?! So while meeting someone new can be very exciting, it is wise to proceed with caution and really get to know them before jumping all the way into the thing.
Good Guys Get Good Things
In life, there are many benefits to being a good, kind and decent human being, and the Humphrey family was all about that. They were surrounded by Upper East Siders who were a bit more materialistic and selfish, but they (for the most part) worked to stay true to themselves.
At one point, Dan’s innocent ways landed him Olivia Burke, a star who was played by Hilary Duff. He also, of course, ended up with his dream girl after waiting patiently and continuing to be a good guy, overall.
Not All Fairy Tales Get A Happily Ever After
However, not all love stories get a happily ever after, and sometimes even the most romantic fairy tales have unhappy endings. A great example here would be Blair and Louis. She always considered herself to be the Queen B, and everything seemed to really be falling into place when she met a real-life prince.
But he was not who he seemed, and this is common. Issues arise. Truths come out. Fights happen. There is no such thing as perfect, and if a relationship is this far from it, then get out of it!
First Loves Are Special
Out of all the loves that can exist, there is something quite special about the first one. Butterflies are involved, and every single movement and word is exhilarating. At times, first loves last forever. Other times, they are short and sweet. And in some cases, those who dated back in the day remain friends forever, and one of the people may end up with the other one’s best friend!
Of course, the main characters in this show were unique, as they lasted through some really big stuff and had an intense amount of loyalty for one another. And it was always great to see that couples like Nate and Blair could remain grateful friends.
Dating A Friend Doesn’t Always Work Out
There are people who cannot and should not date their friends, though, such as Dan and Vanessa. They were friends long before Dan entered the Upper East Side, and Vanessa never truly warmed up to that world. Still, they tried to make a real relationship work, and when it ended, their friendship kind of did, too.
Every situation like this will vary, but if anyone is thinking about finally making a move on a BFF, just keep these two in mind.
You Don’t Give Up on The People You Love
You don’t give up on the people you love… These are some very wise words from this TV show, and they were spoken by Mr. Chuck Bass. This quote echoes how very special this friend group was. They betrayed each other, dated each other, gossiped about one another… yet they understood each other, accepted each other and loved one another.
In particular, Chuck and Blair were madly in love, and even through all of their trials and tribulations, they did not give up or stop fighting for what was meant to be.
Find Someone Who Looks At You & Sees You
Not everyone will find a relationship as dramatic as the one between Chuck and Blair, but hopefully, people can find someone who looks at them and who really sees them… like Dan and Serena could and did. She was very a well-off family, and he was from Brooklyn, but when they were together, it was like nothing else existed.
He didn’t just love her because she was the blonde it girl, and she wasn’t just with him because he was something new. This was real.
There’s Always Nate’s Way
Of course, there is always the option to take advice from Nate Archibald, too. He was the all-American guy of the group, the athlete, the one with the perfect hair and teeth and the one who got all the ladies.
While some of his choices were beyond questionable, he did seem to have a lot of fun! And for some, this may be the way to go (while still being cautious, too, though).
And There May Be Three Words, Eight Letters
The best-case scenario would be to get those three words and eight letters, which brings up the final piece of relationship advice. There will be toads to kiss. There will be mistakes that are made. There will be exciting new thrills. There will be decisions to make. But in the end, if it is truly meant to be, a person can find the one, and they will exchange those three little words, and it will be true perfection.
So have fun, but be patient. Be open, yet proceed with caution. And when Mr. or Mrs. Right comes along, get ready to be swept away on an adventure that may just end with a wedding ceremony… in the park… where the cops show up.
