Scarface is a film that is considered to be generally acclaimed. Why not? The story of an immigrant who came to America and turns his life into one version of the American dream really hit a note with many people. It was culturally relevant then and it is even more culturally relevant now.
This film is considered to be a drama but let’s be honest, some of those critically acclaimed scenes have us rolling on the floor laughing. So, no we don’t want to say hi to your little friend, we are not cockroaches, you certainly should have overdosed on that mountain of powder and we can’t stop watching you spiral Tony. What scenes did you find funny in Scarface? We won’t judge, we promise.
How to Pick Up Chicks
One of the most memorable scenes from Scarface is when Tony and Manny hit up the beach. It’s one of the only times we get to see the friends hang loose and enjoy themselves before everything falls apart. Manny being somewhat of an expert on women decides to teach Tony how to pick up Miami women.
He sticks his tongue out in a jerky motion towards Tony who is completely freaked out and wants nothing to do with Manny and that weird tongue thing. Tony watches as Manny puts this tongue motion in action on a real Miami woman. He gets the taste slapped out of his mouth.
That Mountain Of Snow
At the end of the film, Tony is getting ready for war with a rival dealer who wants to come in and take his turf. The scene is him sitting in front of a mountain of cocaine and going nuts. He is loading guns, yelling loud enough for everyone in that huge, gaudy mansion to hear. Then he goes for it, he dives in nose first and sniffs way more cocaine than anyone’s body should be able to handle.
The funny part is, the way he dives into the piled high yayo, anyone else would have choked themselves, coughed up a lung but not Tony. He took it like a champ and went on to shoot up a bunch of people and take an awful lot of bullets before he too croaks.
Dancing With Elvira
Tony was into Elvira Hancock, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, since he first laid eyes on her. She was his boss Frank’s girl. They full-on lived together, did drugs together and apparently, they would have had kids but her womb (we later learned) was too polluted by drugs. Tony saw how unhappy she was with Frank and swooped in to save her.
He went to the Babylon Club and saw her dancing. He joined her and what happened next was a two left feet situation. Tony looked crazy jumping up and down dancing with Elvira. They almost looked like they were dancing to two different songs.
Tony’s Ugly Car
In another attempt to impress Elvira and his boss, Tony spent some money on an obnoxious car. A Cadillac to be exact. He was very excited to pick up Elvira who ended up being way too embarrassed to be seen in the car. The interior was a cheetah print that ran throughout the whole car.
Literally everywhere even the steering wheel was wrapped in cheetah print. It didn’t help the look of clunkiness that the Cadillac Convertible normally has. Even Manny felt like the pimp he wants to be driving that car around. Needless to say, they went straight to a car dealer and Tony bought a new car. A car that Elvira found… satisfactory.
Say Hello To My Little Friend
Okay, so we all know that famous saying that Tony yells out when he is ending the lives of many of the men who came barging through his door. His blaze of glory included a lot of one-liners and him holding a machine gun very awkwardly as he tries to survive. But have you ever truly watched the scene and seen how funny it is?
Tony is about the same height as the gun he is using. He looks high out of his mind and he still has residual cocaine on his nose and upper lip. Probably from when he planted his face into the stuff. The funniest part is that because he is so high he can’t see what we all see, he is outnumbered.
Don’t Call Tony A Dishwasher
After being released from what looks like an ICE detention center, Tony and Manny get jobs at a food stand on what looks like the Miami strip. We all know Tony as a hustler and he will do what he has to do to make money. But clearly working at a food stand was not going to be a long term thing for him. Especially because his boss was always trying to talk down to him.
Frank’s right-hand man Omar comes to meet up with Manny and Tony, he makes the mistake of calling Tony a dishwasher. Tony is ready to fight this guy in the street but what makes the situation funny is that Omar is so high he can’t even tell.
The Number Of Insults
For someone who says they are so intelligent, Tony sure swears a lot. In fact, the whole script is full of F-bombs. The insults are ones you don’t normally hear and yet, Tony says them like they are normal. He regularly calls people cockroaches and he even goes out of his way to make sure that they know they are beneath him.
Even Omar had a few stingers like referring to Tony as a female dog. The insults are hilarious because it seems like writer Oliver Stone was trying to change the way that people swear and insult one another.
Refugee Status Interview
When Tony is being interviewed to get refugee status in the United States, officials ask him everything from where he was born to where he got that scar on his face. One of the officers even suggests that Tony got his famous scar from performing a sexual act with a woman. The interview comes off as a joke.
The officers gather around Tony like they are a bunch of clowns. They bombard him with questions they have no business asking including where he learned English. Shouldn’t you just be happy that you don’t have to go through a translator? They really didn’t accomplish much, seeing as they let a dangerous criminal loose on the streets
Sanitorium Or Sanitation
Manny also had a weird yet, comical conversation with the customs officers. We are actually surprised that he was even able to make it out of the detention center legally or illegally. When he was asked by Tony what he said in the interview Manny confidently said, I told them what you told me to tell them.
Which apparently was that Manny has been in a sanitorium for several years. However, as crazy as that answers sound, it was wrong Tony told him to tell them he was in sanitation. Like the sanitation business. Manny made himself look certifiable and that certainly wasn’t going to help them get out of there. Thank God they broke out.
Tony Quits The Food Stand
Tony was sick of this job before he even knew there was a possibility to make more money with Frank. His boss was very big on immigrants coming to America and putting in the work. He did and whoever worked for him was going to do the same. Tony and Manny weren’t there for too long but when they quit they did it in a way that made them look like they were working the hardest.
Tony throws his apron at the man and he and Manny walk out in the middle of a shift. He yells a few useless words at his former boss and essentially throws up the deuces. Don’t we all wish we could quit like that?
